John,
Today, the Senate trial begins so we can hold Donald J. Trump accountable for inciting white supremacists to attempt to overthrow our government.
The coup on January 6th was just the latest incident of white supremacist violence that Black people have been threatened with for the past 400+ years. Members of Congress ran for their lives, and yet we're still fighting for the bare minimum of accountability.
Some Republicans are saying we should "get over it" and "move on" from the attempted coup. But the lessons from 400+ years of white supremacist violence is that justice
must be served -- and that “moving on” is no longer an option.
That's why
today we're launching a TV ad campaign in Washington, D.C., targeted specifically at members of Congress -- demanding they hold the “white supremacist in chief” that sent a violent mob to their doorstep accountable for his actions.

Here's the thing -- we know this is much bigger than Trump.
Senator Ted Cruz promoted baseless claims of election fraud for weeks. On the day of the election certification, he continued and ultimately aided and abetted the attempted coup that happened on January 6th.
That same day, Senator Josh Hawley
raised his fist in support of white supremacists outside Congress moments before they violently broke into the building.
And guess what? These senators are only going to continue to advance their political careers on the basis of white supremacy if we don't take action. Perhaps they'll even attempt a presidential run -- especially if there continue to be no consequences for embracing and enabling white supremacists.
This is the same reason we're supporting Rep. Cori Bush's resolution to investigate and expel congressional members for their blatant ties to white supremacy and for trying to overturn the results of the election. Any public official -- whether it be local, state, or federal -- should be held accountable to the highest level if they're in any way, shape, or form connected to white supremacy or have taken anti-democratic actions.
Though Trump is out of office, his legacy of white supremacy and his ability to pursue and embolden it these past four years will remain possible if nothing is done.
Congress must convict Trump, bar him from ever being able to seek elected office again, and set precedence to the notion that white supremacy is not okay. That white supremacy is violent and dangerous to everyone -- including members of Congress.
For most folks in Congress, it was the first time they were met with the same violence that Black people have had to endure for the past 400+ years. Chip in to our TV ad campaign so that we can send them a message: Impeaching Trump is how they prevent it from happening again.
John, we're in this together -- and we will put an end to white supremacy.
In love and solidarity,
