A Thank You to Black Health Leaders Combating Vaccine Hesitancy
60 Black members of the National Academy of Medicine made a high-profile plea to Black Americans to get the COVID-19 vaccine. “Many of us fought our way into health professions specifically to care for the health of our community,” they wrote in the New York Times. “We encourage you to claim your place in line to get vaccinated.” Among Campaign
allies: Risa Lavizzo-Mourey,MD, MBA; John Lumpkin, MD, MPH; Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN; and David Williams, PhD, MPH, plus others.
Join Us for the Future of Nursing: Passion, Progress and Purpose
Action Coalitions, allies, and all who care about the nation’s health are invited to a
Campaign for Action
summit that sets the stage for the National Academy of Medicine’s report on nursing for the coming decade, acknowledges progress of the past decade and honors the contributions of nursing during this extraordinary time. The February 24 meeting will include presentations from leaders in nursing, as well as from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, AARP Foundation, and the Campaign.
Health Equity Action Forum Recordings Now Available
Recordings of the first and second Campaign
Health Equity Action Forums are now online. “The Value of Diversifying the Nursing Workforce,” held on January 12, and “Nursing as a Career to Achieve Financial Security,” held on February 3, are part of a series that includes leaders from human rights groups, government and business, consumer, business, and health care organizations asking and answering questions about nursing and health equity.
“Advancing racial equity exerts a powerful positive influence on the lives and futures of children,” begins a report from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. But it’s good for the bottom line too: “The United States economy could be $8 trillion larger by 2050 if the country eliminated racial disparities in health, education, incarceration and employment.”
Every community welcomes leadership, and now’s the time to get involved: AARP and the Nurses on Boards Coalition seek nurses to represent AARP on community boards working to improve patient care, support family caregivers, build healthier communities and advocate for policies that lead to better health and well-being.
