NBWA human trafficking awareness campaign hits important milestone

NBWA's Distributors Against Human Trafficking initiative gained significant momentum during National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. During January alone, 5,164 distribution employees from nearly 60 companies were trained to recognize and report the signs of human trafficking in their communities. These employees far surpassed NBWA's initial goal to train 1,000 employees in January. “Beer distributors’ enthusiasm for this program gives hope that our collective efforts will have a tangible impact in the important fight against human trafficking in local communities," remarked NBWA President and CEO Craig Purser.

Summit Beverage overcomes pandemic setbacks

Super Bowl Sunday was a glimmer of light at the end of the long, dark COVID-19 tunnel that beer distributors have been going through since last March. Summit Beverage, out of Missoula, Mont., distributes about a quarter of the state's beer and wine and has been dealing with the impact of the pandemic as best they can for the last 11 months. "The Super Bowl reenergized us coming out of the holidays, you know, and I really hope that we see a return to the on-premise businesses and I hope people get out and support these small mom and pop mainstream businesses because really they are the lifeblood of our community,” said Mike Markovich, vice president of Community Relations at Summit Beverages.

Can we brew beer on Mars?

Humans are obsessed with the potential of life on other planets, and Mars has always been of particular interest to us. But what's the point of traveling or living on another planet if we can't enjoy a beer while we're there? A Utah-based lab has figured out that it might be possible to brew beer on Mars. Mock Martian soil had the ability to produce thriving sorghum and hops plants -- two of beer's main ingredients.

Amazon to focus on going into grocery

Last week, it was announced that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was stepping into a new role as executive chairman of the board. According to CFO Brian Olsavsky, Bezos will have a new focus to match the new role: "...the more important decisions. Things like acquisitions. Things like strategies and going into grocery."
