Dear John,
A new Fraser Institute study out today finds that the Alberta government can learn some key lessons from the Klein era of the 1990s when it comes to tackling fiscal challenges.
When late Alberta premier Ralph Klein entered office in the 1990s, his government inherited a fiscal situation similar to today's – one marked by large deficits and rapidly growing debt.
The Klein government responded not with economically-harmful tax increases, but with swift broad-based spending reform which reduced nominal government program spending by 21.6% over three fiscal years and laid the foundation for more than a decade of budget surpluses.
Check out this fascinating study here, and be sure to share it far and wide!
Stay safe,
