John,
Just because Democrats control the White House and Congress doesn’t mean that Republicans and Wall Street are giving up. In order to achieve their long-held goal of destroying Social Security and Medicare, they’re simply talking about it in different (disingenuous) ways, calling it “bipartisan deficit reduction.”
Last week, Senator Mitt Romney ushered through a resolution, which is strikingly similar to his Social Security-attacking TRUST Act. That bill would force cuts to our earned benefits behind closed doors―and his resolution garnered enough Democratic support that we should be worried.
Let’s be clear: Social Security has never added a single penny to the deficit because it’s independently funded by payroll contributions made with every paycheck we receive. It is legally prohibited from contributing to the deficit already.
This month, you can fight back against Mitt Romney’s attacks on Social Security without opening your wallet. That’s because we’ve been selected by our friends at CREDO to compete for a share of $150,000. And right now the voting is neck and neck.

Over the years, CREDO―a progressive phone company that supports progressive causes and organizations―has donated more than $500,000 to Social Security Works in our fight to protect and expand Social Security. They’ve been with us from the beginning, when the conventional wisdom, even among Democrats, was that Social Security cuts were inevitable.
But now, thanks to your hard work, we’ve changed the conversation among Democrats and the American public away from cuts and toward expansion.

Together, let’s make 2021 the year that we EXPAND Social Security.
Thank you,
