Combat white supremacy and hate groups

Dear John,

For years, Donald Trump’s hateful rhetoric and refusal to condemn white supremacy fostered a toxic, volatile environment that finally boiled over on January 6th. Seven lives were lost.

The former president’s impeachment trial begins today — and no matter the results, there must be accountability for racist violence. If those responsible for the violence at the U.S. Capitol — or the failure to put adequate safety measures in place to prevent attacks by the hate groups and militias who were present — face zero consequences, their actions not only set a dangerous precedent for what is acceptable in the future... they encourage racist violence to replicate and amplify.

That’s why Amnesty just delivered a letter to Acting Attorney General Monty Wilkinson demanding a FULL investigation into the incitement, planning, and preparations that led to the storming of the Capitol. Act Now: Add your name and demand an investigation into the storming of the Capitol on January 6.

This crisis didn’t start overnight. It is the result of a systemic failure at the highest levels of our government. From the leaders who refused to call out white supremacy and threats by hate groups... to those who themselves incited violence... to the authorities who failed to adequately respond to the demonstration, and ensure safeguards were in place to protect human rights when the crowd turned violent. The United States government must make sure all responsible parties are brought to justice in accordance with international law.

Right now, the world has its eyes on us. If we refuse to rise and tackle this ongoing crisis of white supremacist hate and violence, we not only endanger the lives of peaceful participants in our political system, but we undermine the United States’ ability to promote human rights internationally as well.

We need your help. Join our calls for accountability and justice by signing your name to our letter urging AG Wilkinson to take immediate action.

Thanks for your activism,
