Last March -- just as the COVID-19 pandemic was taking hold in the U.S. --
Bloomberg Philanthropies joined the State of Maryland and Johns Hopkins
University to fund research into a possible treatment: plasma therapy.
Plasma therapy uses antibodies from previously infected patients to protect
those who have become ill. After months of research and study, we now have a
stronger understanding of how -- and when -- the treatment can help people
battling COVID-19.
So what does the evidence say about the effectiveness of plasma therapy? Check

In the video, Dr. Arturo Casadevall -- the leading researcher for plasma
therapy at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health -- explains the
science behind the treatment, and reports on the studies that have taken place
over the course of the pandemic.
Dr. Casadevall also explains that it's important to spread the word about
plasma therapy because, for it to work, it requires donations from people who
have recovered from COVID-19.
