We are happy to announce that the vote on our hub endorsing candidates in Virginia and Maryland passed overwhelmingly! We have decided to endorse MD and VA candidates to help usher progressive power in the DMV area (87.8% in favor!). We also supported endorsing hyperlocal candidates in DC running for Advisory Neighborhood Commission seats in the next election (77.6% in favor!).
But to officially start our endorsement process of 2021, we will begin with... Drum roll please…
KARISHMA MEHTA
Karishma is a candidate running to represent the people of Virginia’s 49th House District. She is a strong progressive and has been an ally of Sunrise DC for a while. She has led teach-ins and even joined us when we had our Get Out the Vote Registration Day!
Her process will start this Thursday February 11 at 7:30PM with an Endorsements Town Hall. We will be spending the first 30 minutes asking questions and the next 30 minutes will be discussion based where Sunrise members can share their opinion on the race. After that, we will spend time to discuss what the Political Power team has been working on. Please prepare some questions on anything you may have on her race!
After the Town Hall, voting on whether or not to endorse will begin and continue until Monday, February 15th at 8pm. One of our most powerful tools is endorsing so this is something every member should take part in. Please try to make it!
