Today, the impeachment trial for Donald Trump begins in the Senate.

As a U.S. Navy veteran, federal prosecutor, and again as the Congresswoman for New Jersey’s 11th District, I’ve sworn oaths to uphold our Constitution and defend our democracy. It is my duty to hold Trump, his allies in Congress who enabled him, and everyone responsible for last month’s attack on our democracy accountable. That’s why I voted to impeach Trump for the role he played in inciting the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Trump fanned the flames of division, undermined our democracy, and disgraced his office as president.

This is a painful but necessary moment in our country’s history, and it’s important to me that I hear from you today.
