After a tough re-election in a battleground district, I’m honored to be representing Nevada’s third district once again and serve my second term in the House of Representatives.
I’m about to ask for you to chip in $5 to help keep Nevada blue and continue building the movement that demands progress for our state, [[link removed]] but first I want to tell you why this work is so important to me.
I was born in Canton, Ohio. My father was a military veteran who worked at a steel plant and my mother had her hands full raising myself and my seven siblings. You read that right -- there were 8 of us.
I started working a paper route at the age of eight, and I fondly remember going to swim practice after school everyday because it was the one sport where my mom could drop all of us off at once. I graduated from a public high school and worked my way through college, at times working three and four jobs.
I’ll be honest: Growing up in a working family in the middle of Ohio wasn’t dazzling, but it taught me a lot about how a hard-working family can succeed when we have institutions that uplift everyone -- not just those at the top.
When I moved to Las Vegas as an adult, I knew I wanted to work to improve public education and create more opportunities for children to become involved in sports. I know firsthand how instrumental education and after-school programming are in setting children up for success -- and I made it my mission to make that opportunity more equitable. But after decades of working in the nonprofit sector, I saw how critical public policy is to every level of success for the families and children I was working with.
Washington was failing to take action on the issues these folks needed addressed most -- and they needed it to happen yesterday. They need stronger, more equitable public education where your zip code didn’t determine the quality of your school or how much your teachers were paid. They need a livable wage and workers’ rights that allow them to work in a safe environment. They need access to quality health care that won’t force them to choose between going to see a doctor and buying groceries.
So I ran for Congress in the most competitive district in Nevada to fight for hardworking families and with the help of this team, we won. I’m fighting each and every day to improve the quality of our public education, protect our environment against climate change, and make health care an accessible reality for ALL Americans.
And now that Democrats have control of the House, the Senate, AND the White House in 2021, we’re pushing that much further to achieve progress.
Here’s where I need your help: In order to continue this fight, I need to win re-election in Nevada’s most competitive Congressional district. Nevada was a battleground state for the presidential election, and Trump campaigned to flip my district the most because he knows he can -- he won it in 2016.
National Republicans spent more than $3.5 million attacking me in 2020, and while they weren’t successful in taking back this district -- they closed the margin of victory by SIX POINTS and made NV-03 one of the closest toss-up seats in the nation. That’s why I’m asking for your help -- early money is critical in an incumbent campaign in order to fend off interest from the NRCC and super PACs.
I want to continue fighting for Nevada families -- who have worked hard but Washington hasn’t worked nearly hard enough for them. So what do you say will you chip in $5 to help me defend this battleground district and support a fight that believes EVERYONE deserves a chance? [[link removed]]
