Friends,

This is a sensitive topic, but an important one. The National Institute of Mental Health has reported that suicide is the second leading cause of death in people ages 10-24.

It’s devastating, but we can take action to change this — in September, the House passed Scott’s bipartisan STANDUP Act, to implement evidence-based suicide awareness and prevention training programs in grades 6-12.

“Teaching students and school personnel to understand and recognize signs of violent or suicidal ideation in youth and their peers is crucial to stem the crises of youth suicide and violence.” - Scott Peters

Now, Scott is reintroducing the bill to protect our students, and he needs your support to make sure teachers, administrators, and students have the resources they need to boost youth mental health awareness and stop violence before it happens.

The STANDUP Act will ensure these vital resources are available to schools — show your support for the STANDUP Act by adding your name to our petition now:

When adults and peers have the training to spot and properly react to dangerous warning signs, they can save lives.

And as thousands of students are struggling through online learning and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, they are in desperate need of a strong support system.

Thank you for your support,

Team Peters
