Friend, I know there's a lot going on in Washington right now, but I really need this team's attention on what starts tomorrow. Here's what you need to know:
1. I joined the majority of my House colleagues in voting, for a second time, to impeach Donald J. Trump – this time for incitement of insurrection. Holding a president accountable for such dangerous wrongdoing is the most serious action we can take as House members, and I did not do so lightly.
2. Articles of impeachment were sent to the Senate – and the trial over whether to convict former President Trump is about to begin. Once again, the eyes of the nation are on the Senate – wondering whether they will truly hold Donald Trump fully accountable and adhere to their oaths of office to protect our nation from dangers both foreign and domestic.
3. As the trial begins, I want to show that there is undeniable grassroots energy for doing the right thing – and that means I need to know where you stand. Will you make your voice heard by answering the following question?
Should the Senate convict Donald J. Trump for incitement of insurrection?
This is a rare opportunity to right the wrongs of last year's impeachment trial – where senators let the former president off the hook, with some even naively claiming that he had "learned his lesson." Lessons were not learned – and hate and violence descended upon the Capitol as a result.
For the sake of our democracy, Donald Trump cannot be given another free pass.
Thank you for speaking out.
