We’ll start with the good news, John.

President Biden signed an executive order directing all federal agencies to eliminate subsidies for fossil fuels. This is a big deal.

But here’s the bad news: a large portion of fossil fuel subsidies come from tax breaks and other financial incentives managed by Congress. So in order to fully cut off federal handouts to Big Oil, Congress must act.

Will you send a message to your members of Congress right now urging them to stand up to Big Oil and end fossil fuel handouts?

At a press briefing, President Biden said, “I don’t think the federal government should give handouts to Big Oil.” We couldn’t agree more.

Thanks to the efforts of fossil fuel lobbyists, a whopping $15 billion of taxpayer dollars are funneled into the production of fossil fuels every year. And that doesn’t even include the billions spent on fossil fuel projects overseas.

But only a fraction of these subsidies are within Biden’s purview as president. The Biden Administration can’t touch Congress’ fossil fuel budget.

President Biden is taking immediate action to reign in oil and gas – and now it’s time for Congress to follow. Will you send a message to your members of Congress right now urging them to cut off Big Oil once and for all?

It was our movement that pressured Biden to make climate action a top priority, and now, we must make sure that climate is a top priority for Congress as well.

Federal funds should be used to build a Just Recovery that goes directly to those who need it most: workers, families, and communities on the frontlines of COVID-19 and climate disasters — not polluters and fossil fuel billionaires.

Please send a message today and let’s cut off the purse strings once and for all. --> [link removed]

The end of the fossil fuel era is here. This is only the beginning.
