Minnesota Seeks to Dismiss Frivolous Abortion Lawsuit

[link removed]

As first reported by the Star Tribune, Minnesota's solicitor
general Liz Kramer has filed a motion to dismiss a frivolous lawsuit
brought by radical abortion activists earlier this year.

The subject of the lawsuit is Minnesota's reasonable health and
safety protections for women. Minnesota's bipartisan laws
regarding a sometimes-dangerous procedure, such as requiring that only
physicians perform abortions and providing women factual non-biased
information about abortion before undergoing it, are pure common sense
and supported by most Minnesotans. This lawsuit seeks to create a
lawless and unsafe environment that would hurt women in Minnesota,
whom these laws are designed to protect.

Solicitor General Liz Kramer's 27-page filing (read the whole
thing here) asked the court to dismiss the lawsuit, principally
because the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate that these laws harmed
them in any way.

"The Plaintiffs want to re-write Minnesota law with respect to
abortion," Kramer wrote "The courts are not the right
vehicle for that effort-the Legislature is."

Bring Your Bible to School Day is Thursday, October 3

Screen Shot 2019-09-27 at 2.48.50 PM.png

On Bring Your Bible to School Day students across the nation will
celebrate religious freedom and share God's love with their
friends by bringing their bibles to school. This is an annual event
for students sponsored by Focus on the Family. The event empowers our
students to express their belief in the truth of God's
Word-and to do so in a respectful way that demonstrates the love
of Christ.  Participation is voluntary and
student-directed-meaning it's completely up to
students.  Students can participate alone or Christian clubs
and youth groups can sign up online and then lead the
activities in their school.

For more info go to www.bringyourbible.org.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR OUR STUDENTS TO BE INVOLVED IN THESE
EVENTS?

Our Christian students can be a powerful voice of hope at their
school! In the Bible, it's often young people who lead the way
for the rest of their culture by providing an example of spiritual
boldness and taking a courageous stand for their belief in God. We see
this in the books of Daniel and Esther, which tell the stories of a
young man and woman, who, despite their youth, had the courage to
share God's truth and love with an unbelieving culture.

The New Testament also speaks to the difference you can make:
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young,
but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love,
in faith and in purity," says I Timothy 4:12.  Also, simply
by bringing your Bible to school and expressing your faith, you are
helping to protect religious freedoms for other students.

WHAT ARE STUDENTS' LEGAL RIGHTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE EVENTS?

1) First Amendment rights: Students in a public school have
First Amendment rights to engage in voluntary, free speech
conversations in a way that does not interfere with or substantially
disrupt classroom time and academic instruction. That means they can
voluntarily express their personal and religious beliefs to their your
classmates through verbal or written expressions, as long as they
follow school policy and do not engage in these activities during
classroom or instruction time.

2) Equal Access rights: Student clubs (including Christian
ones) and individuals also have equal access rights to participate in
the same free speech expressions and activities already allowed by the
school for other clubs and individuals. For instance, if your school
allows a club or students to put up posters or distribute cards
containing messages about a current topic, they should not
discriminate against other students or clubs who also want to use
those same free speech venues.

For more information, see the Know Your Rights section
and Responding to Challenges.

CAN STUDENTS TALK ABOUT THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS?

Yes, they can. As noted in the answer above, government schools cannot
censor students from engaging in voluntary, free speech (written or
verbal) about their deeply held religious beliefs-as long as the
speech does not interrupt or cause a substantial disruption to
academic instruction.  For more information about this, review
the legal resources in the Know Your Rights section.

Let's encourage our students to live out their faith in schools
by participating in these events!

Protect Kids Rally: Recap

This recap of the Protect Kids Rally is provided by our allies at
Child Protection League, who organized the event. Read their full
recap here.

An outpouring of parents, grandparents, and concerned citizens
travelled from counties across Minnesota to participate in
a Protect Kids Rally at the state Capitol last Sunday,
September 22nd. They assembled in force to send a strong message to
legislators and political activists: Don't you dare mandate
comprehensive sex education on Minnesota's children.

Child Protection League Action (CPLA) began organizing the rally
following the passage of legislation (HF1414) in the Minnesota House
last April. HF1414 mandates 'comprehensive' sex
education (CSE) on every pre-K through 12

th grade public/charter school in Minnesota. Proponents of the
bill vow to pass it in the Senate in 2020. Governor Walz has said he
would sign the bill if it gets to his desk.

Former State Representative Cindy Pugh from Chanhassen, is Chairwoman
of the Protect Kids Rally, and she was Emcee of the event. Pugh
introduced 18 Minnesota lawmakers who were present and who are
committed to opposing comprehensive sex education in Minnesota.

"People see this comprehensive sex ed material that comes
straight out of Planned Parenthood and they think it would never pass
in Minnesota," said Pugh. "But it did pass the House. And
no one outside the Capitol bubble knew. This all-out assault on the
safety, health and character of our precious children was passed with
no notice to the public, no town halls to take the temperature of
families and taxpayers, and with no accountability to constituents.
This is a brutal attack on children."
