Dear John,
Tomorrow, the Senate will begin the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump for his incitement of the deadly January 6th insurrection. With 17 Republican senators needed to convict him, and just five signaling they’ll do so, the outcome is all but settled.
But Trump’s inevitable acquittal isn’t the end of the story. There’s another way to hold him accountable for sparking the violent attack, in addition to ensuring he can’t run again in 2024.
Our latest video explains how a simple majority of Congress can revoke Trump’s cushy post-presidency benefits -- and why it’s critical that they do so.
Trump is a twice-impeached former president who did everything he could to attack Black and brown communities, and ended his presidency by inciting an insurrection against the United States government.
Call me old-fashioned, but I don't think someone with that record deserves millions in taxpayer-funded benefits at all, let alone every single year for the rest of his life.
He shouldn’t see another cent from U.S. taxpayers.
Thanks for watching,
Robert Reich
