Claiming Jewish space lasers caused wildfires in California. Harassing teenage survivors of school shootings. Publicly calling for the execution of Democratic lawmakers, and even sharing their locations with violent insurrectionists. These are just a few of the actions by the “QAnon Caucus” — a group of radical right-wing, conspiracy-espousing members of Congress. These beliefs aren’t just preposterous — they’re dangerous. And until every member of the Republican party fully and unequivocally disavows those who hold these beliefs, they too are the Party of QAnon.
The lies and racism of certain elected leaders have gotten so extreme that last week, the House voted to remove one QAnon Congressperson from her committee assignments because she couldn’t be trusted to follow her oath of office or keep her colleagues safe. But she isn’t the only one. QAnon conspiracy theories have invaded and flourished in right-wing communities, both online and off. For the safety of our lawmakers, our citizens and our democracy, we cannot allow these outlandish and violent beliefs to gain power. That’s why Martin is focused on identifying and rooting out extremism wherever it occurs.
