CfA's September 27, 2019 Newsletter

Thank you for your continued support of Campaign for Accountability (CfA). Here's an update on our latest work.

Our Latest Actions:

  • CfA Files IRS Complaint Against Public Lands Foe: Today, CfA called on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to investigate whether the Montana-based anti-public lands nonprofit, Citizens for Balanced Use, violated its nonprofit tax-exempt status by engaging in substantial, unreported lobbying activity. (Press Release, Complaint )
  • Michigan Women Deserve Real Care, Not Real Alternatives: On Monday, CfA published an op-ed by CfA Counsel Alice Huling arguing that Real Alternatives, an anti-abortion nonprofit organization that receives state funding to run the Michigan Parenting and Pregnancy Support Program, is not operating effectively nor is it meeting the needs of Michigan women. (Op-Ed )

Help Us Fight Back Against Devin Nunes:

  • Donate to CfA: Last year, CfA filed three ethics complaints against Congressman Devin Nunes documenting his deplorable conduct. Now he's filed a frivolous lawsuit against us to deflect attention away from his ethical lapses. Please donate to CfA and help us fight back!

CfA In the News:

  • Fake Clinics are Not the Answer: Angela Grimes highlighted CfA's work in her New York Times op-ed explaining how crisis pregnancy centers mislead women. (The New York Times, 9.16.19)

What We're Reading:

  • Google is Still Profiting Off of Fake News: From VICE: "New research shows Google’s online ad tech places ads on 70% of 1,700 sites purveying misinformation.": (VICE, 9.22.19)
  • Oklahoma Legislator Rents from Energy lobbyist: One of Oklahoma's most powerful legislators, Kevin Wallace, rented an apartment from energy lobbyist Ken Miller. (The Oklahoman, 9.23.19)
  • Ferguson Mayor Candidate Used Campaign Account for Personal Use: Ferguson, Missouri mayor candidate Courtney Curtis was fined for using his campaign account for personal use. Curtis also failed to disclose 10 campaign contributions, including a $25,000 check from Missouri megadonor David Humphreys, who has previously been featured in CfA's complaints. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 9.24.19)
  • Attorney General Barr Seeks Antitrust Probe of Facebook: The tides are turning against big tech. (Bloomberg, 9.25.19)
