In efforts to make Pittsburghers for Public Transit (PPT) a more accessible organization, we are conducting a survey to identify areas we need to improve on and things we can do differently.

Post Gazette Editorial Board supports PPT's call for an emergency low-income fare

From the Post Gazette Editorial Board's opinion published Sunday, Feb 7: "Federal stimulus money directed to the Port Authority has been allocated to help the struggling agency stay afloat despite a rising tide of COVID-19-related financial insolvency.

It makes sense to loosen the spending restrictions on this money so the agency can, in turn, help another vulnerable group — the poor.

Pittsburghers for Public Transit asked Port Authority leaders in late January to create an emergency program that would give a free (or reduced cost) bus pass to those who already qualify for food assistance.

The program would cost between $4 million and $8 million — amounts beyond the means of the already struggling Port Authority. [...]"

Building a state transit funding proposal that puts transit riders and workers first
Organizing a statewide network of transit riders who can help inform and mobilize around this state funding
Continuing our push for a low-income fare emergency pilot program at the Port Authority
