Dear Friend,
Impeachment is one of the two gravest powers of
Congress. The other is the power to Declare War. Impeaching the
President of the United States should never be our first option, it
must always be our last option.
I was one of the earliest
Members of Congress to call for an impeachment inquiry because Special
Counsel Robert Mueller's Report established substantial evidence that
Donald Trump committed multiple felonies. I believe Congress has the
duty to investigate the evidence laid out by Mueller. That work
continues.
The Ukrainian scandal has now added significant
urgency to the ongoing investigations in Congress. Both the summarized
call transcript released from the White House and the whistleblower
complaint show that the President blocked critical military aid to
Ukraine, and then a week later asked President Zelensky to investigate
Joe Biden right after the Ukrainian leader raised the issue of
military aid. Whether one calls this blackmail, extortion, bribery, or
treason, we can all agree it looked like a gross abuse of power by
Donald Trump.
Congress must now focus our energies on
investigating this matter. The evidence that has already been
uncovered is damning. Sign
here if you agree that we must follow the facts where they lead us,
even if they lead us to pass Articles of
Impeachment.
I support Speaker Pelosi's decision
to start a formal Impeachment Inquiry. For the sake of our country, I
hope we do not establish that the President betrayed America by
blocking military aid to Ukraine and then soliciting Ukraine to
interfere in our elections by targeting Trump's political
opponent.
I fear we will establish those facts, in which case
we will have no choice but to use our last option: impeachment of the
President. Sign
here if you agree with me that we must be prepared to follow our
constitutional
responsibilities.
Sincerely,
Ted W.
Lieu Member of Congress
