Hi John,
Politics often runs on a boom and bust cycle of fundraising and spending. But the hard work of winning elections is actually done long before ads hit the airwaves. In 2021, we are committed to increasing our rural organizing capacity, putting resources behind municipal races across the state, and working to become a more inclusive party that works alongside Black, Indigenous, and people of color. This work needs to be done every day, every month, every year. That’s why sustaining, monthly donors are so important.
So why is building local infrastructure so important?
For one, winning down ballot municipal and county races helps us build our bench and turn out Democrats. I got my own start in politics on the local city council; Congresswoman Chellie Pingree served on her local school board; and Governor Mills got her start as District Attorney for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford Counties. There are nearly 2,000 local races in Maine in 2021. We need sustainable funding to support every race and elect Democrats.
For most of us, making a commitment of $5 or $10 a month is a lot easier than a big lump sum. Making a monthly gift also helps us here at the Maine Dems budget into the future with more confidence. This is how Democrats win now and into the future, by making long term investments into party building and local support.
Thank you,
Drew
