The risk of exposure to COVID-19 is still very real.

We need to be extra vigilant and mitigate the risks of infection, particularly for those who are older or who have pre-existing conditions. For the sake of our collective health, please remember to wear a mask when you leave your home, practice social distancing, and wash your hands frequently. This pandemic has shown us that the health of one is the health of all so we all need to take responsibility for our common well-being.

There are some easy ways to safely stay connected to the chapter, such as: signing-up on the front page of our website to receive our weekly newsletter, checking the calendar on the site for upcoming virtual events, and joining DSA-LA’s Slack.

ENDORSEMENT ALERT 🗣️🗣️🗣️

DSA-LA 🌹 ENDORSES 🌹 DANIEL LEE FOR CA STATE SENATE DISTRICT 30

This week DSA-LA members voted overwhelmingly in favor of endorsing Daniel Lee in the March 2 special election for Senate District 30, the seat recently vacated when Holly Mitchell was elected to the L.A. County Board of Supervisors.

The endorsement vote received 404 votes from chapter members and 96% voted in favor of this endorsement.

Daniel is campaigning on a statewide Medicare for All program; housing for all; urgently addressing the climate crisis and environmental racism, a just transition away from fossil fuels; and divesting our state’s public pensions from corporate slumlords and fossil fuel polluters.

DSA-LA February Branch Meetings

Saturday, February 20 @ 3:00PM-5:00PM

How are we all as DSA-LA going to fight for socialism in 2021?

Join us as we host synchronous branch meetings all across LA county in order to learn from each other and discuss what our campaigns and strategies for the year are. Here’s what to expect:

1. Register below using the link to your branch. (Not sure which branch you’re a part of? Check the list here!)
2. After registration, you will be sent a Zoom link. Please join a few minutes early so we can start on time!
3. The first portion of the meeting will be an interactive live stream shared across all 5 branches
4. Then, all branches will work through an agenda prepared by their coordinator to highlight branch projects and create room for discussion about branch strategies and how to get involved.

Westside Branch Building Phonebank III

Thursday, February 11 @ 5:30PM-7:30PM

Westside members! Join Westside Branch Coordinators, Captains, and Neighborhood Organizers for the second installment in a branch-wide phonebank series designed to reach every member of our growing branch. We’ll be getting in touch with new Westside members to learn about their (and their neighbors’) housing situations during the crisis, the sectors they typically work in, and opportunities for neighborhood-specific mutual aid organizing, including: needed support with child watch & Zoom school, accessing government benefits, and maintaining power-up and hand-washing stations in solidarity with nearby encampments. If you’ve never phonebanked before, no worries! This hosted phonebank is a great way to get involved in our chapter’s work, and there will be time built in to walk comrades through the script and the overall process, step-by-step. Join us to make calls designed to build working class power, block by block on the Westside. ✊

Political Education Facilitator Training

Saturday, February 13th @ 11:00AM-12:30PM

Note: This meeting will be held over Zoom. Click here to RSVP and receive the Zoom link.

The Facilitator Training, hosted by the Political Education Committee, will teach you techniques for leading groups discussions, both online and in person.

The key questions that will be answered by this training are:

• Why is political education important?

• What is the role of the facilitator?

• What are concrete tools to facilitate?

• How can I address common roadblocks to a conversation that flows?

The skills and tools covered in this training are applicable in any meeting where participants will be discussing new ideas, so we welcome anyone interested in learning more about facilitation!

Participants are encouraged to read through this short article on the importance of Political Education before the training.
