Hi John,
Once again the Trade Bill is back in parliament tomorrow where MPs will again vote on amendments to give parliament a meaningful say on trade deals. This would avoid giving the government a blank cheque to slash standards, entrench privatisation and privilege a corporate agenda.

If you haven’t already contacted your MP, can you email them right now?

I’ve emailed you about the Trade Bill a couple of times recently. That’s because the bill is now in the stage known as ‘ping pong’ where it goes back and forth between the Commons and the Lords with votes each time. Last month, the Commons took out the amendment that would give parliament a vote on trade deals, but last week the Lords put it back in again. Tomorrow the Commons will vote again, so we have another chance to call on MPs to do the right thing and support those MPs who are speaking out on this.

Our campaigning on this has made trade democracy a live debate within the Conservative Party. Yesterday David Davis MP wrote on Conservative Home [1] in support of the amendment:

"When Brexiteeers campaigned to ‘Take Back Control’ the intention was to bring back control to Westminster. Not Whitehall. The House of Commons’ voice is now more important, not less."
It's clear this issue crosses not only parties, but also both sides of the Brexit divide. But Conservative MPs will need to feel enough public pressure if they are to vote against their leadership.

It’s been four years since we forced this issue onto the agenda in parliament. In the process, we’ve actually succeeded in improving what the government is actually doing so that it is a bit easier for parliament to see what is happening in trade deals and raise concerns. But they’ve had to be pushed into every small step, and it is not yet enough. And crucially, they still refuse to write this into law. Tomorrow we have one more chance to change that.

Thank you for taking action.

** The US-UK trade deal could give corporations everything they want. Help us stop it.
------------------------------------------------------------

We are campaigning to stop the toxic US trade deal which is likely to lower food standards, weaken chemical regulation, increase medicine prices and block climate action.

Regular gifts give us the long-term stability to plan effective campaigns for a more just world. And they will help further the campaign to stop this toxic trade deal.
