Now that we have a new Congress and a gun safety majority in both the House and Senate, it's possible that universal background checks could be brought to the floor of the House as soon as this month.

Gun violence continues to surge throughout our country. Gun sales are skyrocketing -- more guns were sold last month than almost any other month on record. This builds on the dangerous trend of people panic buying guns, which we've seen throughout the pandemic.

With gun sales on the rise, we need to protect Americans now more than ever. We need to make sure that every person trying to buy a gun has to pass a background check.

Our efforts to make universal background checks the law of the land has never been more important, and as we prepare for background checks to be reintroduced in the House we have to ask:
