The transcript of Donald Trump's call with Ukraine's president revealed that he, in no uncertain terms, attempted to pressure a foreign government to interfere in our elections.

And as I said yesterday, that's an impeachable offense.

But as we move forward with impeachment proceedings on this particular abuse of power, it's crucial we don't lose sight of the other revelations in that transcript: specifically, that foreign officials try to curry favor with Trump by staying at his properties.

As Chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I take my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of federal agencies under my jurisdiction extremely seriously. This includes the agency which oversees the Old Post Office building in Washington D.C. which houses the Trump Hotel.

Yesterday, as the media was poring over the transcript of Trump's call, my committee was demanding answers from Trump appointees at the General Services Administration (GSA) about their (frankly pathetic) oversight of the Trump Hotel.

I'm not satisfied with this. Not by a long shot.

I'm going to pursue the financial records of the Trump Hotel – which, let's not forget, is owned by taxpayers like you and me – as well as the hold GSA accountable for looking the other way while the president uses a national monument to launder gifts from foreign officials.

Before President Trump was sworn into office, I raised alarms about the myriad of constitutional, legal, and ethical conflicts with the Trump Hotel lease, the relocation of the FBI headquarters, and the president's opportunity to enrich himself, his businesses, and his associates.

I began demanding answers about the Old Post Office building back in November 2016. Despite stonewalling by the administration, my team of oversight experts has been have been aggressively investigating, making records requests, and pursuing the facts on behalf of our country since then. We will hold President Trump and his administration accountable for any self-dealing and unethical behavior.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Stay tuned.
