John,
This week, we kicked off Black History Month — a time to honor the achievements Black people have made in this country in the face of centuries of systemic oppression, and contributions to the Black freedom struggle and our collective liberation.
And in this first week, we're anchoring ourselves to the powerful words of James Baldwin:
"You and I are history. We carry our history. We act our history."
The Working Families Party and our members are committed to creating the change in the world we want to see through the actions we take every day. We're building a real multiracial, feminist, working-class political party that is a voice for the most marginalized communities.
In a minute, we're going to talk more about that day-to-day work we are doing to organize in Black communities and elect more Black candidates to office. But first, a quick ask: Will you join as a member of WFP today to be a part of what we're building together? We can't do it without you.

Here are just a few of the ways — this month and every month — that the Working Families Party is seeking to honor this history by acting on it:
Recruiting, training, and electing more community champions to office. Black women are the backbone of our democracy, but their political labor is often exploited. Non-binary people are often rendered invisible, leaving them with few places for expansive thinking around building power outside of a gender binary. Through programs like Bet On Us, we are creating a political home and space for Black women and non-binary people to build power, grow consciousness, organize their communities and run for office in the South and across the country. And as 2021 kicks off, we're focused on recruiting, supporting, and electing more of those candidates nationwide, like Nina Turner in OH-11, a fierce champion for her community.
Reimagining justice at the local level. Across the country, activists have been working closely with prosecutors to reshape justice in this country. The Working Families Party is proud to be part of the growing movement of progressive prosecutors who are working to dismantle policies that harm Black people and replace them with policies that heal instead. In election after election, we've seen WFP champions run on this platform and win! Later this month, we will break bread with Kim Fox, Monique Worrell, and Rachel Rollins — three powerful Black District Attorneys who are providing a template for what reimagining justice could look like in communities nationwide. And the WFP Justice Fund will continue to defend elected champions when they come under attack, and elect the next generation of leaders who pledge to defund police and shift resources to community needs.
Organizing to build a multiracial party of working people. The Working Families Party is continuing to organize deeply and specifically in Black communities to advance our vision of building a multiracial party where working people hold the power. We're hosting regular welcome gatherings and community reunions — gatherings of the WFP community where we seek to come together, recalibrate, and recenter ourselves in why we struggle for justice for the people and the planet. This month, the DC WFP community will be writing letters to incarcerated folks.
And that's just scratching the surface. With your support — and with your involvement as a member — we can do so much more. Join as a member of WFP today and become a part of this movement for change.
We continue this work happily, unapologetically, fiercely. Onward.
In solidarity,
All of us at the Working Families Party
