John,
The moment to fight to pass gun safety legislation is nearly upon us.
Right now, our focus is on COVID relief, and that is tremendously important. We’re already seeing that Mitch McConnell will do everything he can to obstruct our agenda and prevent us from making progress.
But we cannot let his tactics slow us down. We can do more than one thing at a time. So now is the time to start preparing, and I need to know that you’re ready to fight alongside me to pass important legislation like universal background checks.
Will you add your name to say you’re ready to fight to help me pass gun violence prevention legislation in Congress? Our ideas are overwhelmingly popular, but these early weeks of the new Congress have shown that it will take our entire movement working together to make change. [[link removed]]
My story, like so many other survivors, is what got me into this work. My son Jordan was murdered by a man with a gun at a gas station in 2012.
That tragedy gave me my purpose. I ran for Congress as a mom on a mission not simply to talk about change — but to get it done.
For Jordan, my family, and the countless others impacted by gun violence, we will fix this broken system.
Every step of the way the gun lobby has tried to block our movement, but time and time again, we have shown that collectively we are stronger than their lobbyists. The NRA is a shell of what it once was, and that is certainly a testament to our work.
But we cannot fool ourselves into thinking that this fight is over or that it will be easy. Gun violence in this country is an epidemic. I need to know that you are with me for this.
Please add your name today to demand swift action on gun safety legislation, like universal background checks. This is a crisis that cannot be ignored any longer. It is a matter of saving lives. [[link removed]]
I got into this work because I realized our system would not be fixed unless people like you and me stepped up and said enough.
Each one of us that raises our hand to say we’re up for the fight ahead sends a powerful message to my colleagues that Congress must urgently act to end gun violence.
