Dear Wilderness Defender,
We have good news! Yesterday Senators Alexander, Baldwin, Durbin, Klobuchar, Smith, and Udall stood up to protect the Boundary Waters by working with bipartisan Senate colleagues in the Senate Interior Appropriations Committee. The Senators are committed to making sure the federal government is required to complete the study evaluating the consequences of copper mining near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
This was great progress for the protection of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness! We worked closely with these Senators to keep Boundary Waters protection alive with them through the Interior Appropriations process, and we will continue to press for strong report language in the final Appropriations bill that will require the U.S. Forest Service to complete the study on the consequences of copper mining near the Boundary Waters.
