You know Hakeem: He tells it like it is.

So when freshman GOP member and Trump loyalist Rep. Burgess Owens — who voted to overturn the 2020 election results after the violent insurrection on the Capitol — tried to lecture Democrats on “patriotism,” Hakeem set the record straight.

Hakeem made it clear: Burgess has no place to talk about patriotism when he consciously voted against the peaceful transfer of power after a violent mob incited by Trump invaded the Capitol, leaving more than 100 officers injured and one dead. All to promote Trump’s Big Lie that he won and Biden lost.

Hakeem then went on to reference Owen’s insistence that it’s not his fault, passing the buck and rejecting every ounce of responsibility just like Trump did for four years.

In his remarks, Hakeem sent a message to Owen and every Republican member of Congress who chose to lie instead of uphold their oath of office: You want to unify the country? Stop spreading Trump’s Big Lie and refusing to take responsibility for your actions.

As long as Republicans try to wash their hands and move on from the violent insurrection they incited, deny responsibility and lecture Democrats on “unity” and “patriotism,” Hakeem is ready to speak up and hold them accountable.
