Hi John,

Mitch McConnell was able to use the filibuster to block 43% of Democratic initiatives when Democrats held the Senate majority under the Obama administration.

He's planning to do the same for Joe Biden's agenda on everything from the pandemic stimulus bill to climate action initiatives -- and he can, given that Democrats don't have the supermajority needed to break a filibuster and end debate on a piece of legislation.

Civil rights groups, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, and other progressives in Congress are now calling to eliminate the filibuster, especially given that Democrats were unable to use it for much of Trump's term due to McConnell's manipulation of the rules.

Republicans have demonized eliminating the filibuster, but we know that Americans need expansive action now, and a Senate majority will mean nothing if Republicans can use a Jim Crow relic to block legislation. That's why today, we need to know where you stand on the issue:

Should Democrats eliminate the Senate filibuster?

YES   NO

Thank you for sharing your insights with us today.
