One month ago today, armed insurrectionists — incited by Donald Trump — stormed the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C.
They literally overran the Capitol.
They were, in some cases, just moments away from possibly capturing, torturing, or even executing members of Congress and the Vice President.
And their seditionist rampage did in fact result in the deaths of at least five people.
Every day since the murderous MAGA horde invaded the Capitol, we’ve learned more and more about:
- the coordination and planning leading up to the carnage
- the involvement of white-supremacist and neo-Nazi outfits
- the failures of law enforcement — especially in light of their almost habitually hostile and brutal reactions to peaceful Black Lives Matter demonstrations
- the role some members of Congress themselves played in stoking resentment and encouraging violence
- how Trump’s Big Lie that the election was “stolen” from him motivated the attack
The Senate is about to begin its trial of Donald Trump following his impeachment (for an unprecedented second time) in the House of Representatives last month.
If the Senate does not convict Trump, what’s to stop him or someone else from trying again to illegally and even violently overturn an election and overthrow the government?
Join me in delivering this very simple message to every senator:
You must convict Donald Trump. If you do not, you will be licensing the threat and even the use of political violence and enabling politicians who are under the thrall of right-wing fanatics bent on perpetuating white supremacy.
Add your name.
If you’ve taken action with us already on the issue of Trump’s upcoming trial in the Senate, please take action again today. Senators can’t hear from the American people enough on something so fundamental to the survival of our democracy.
Thank you for taking action.
For justice,

P.S. For half a century, Public Citizen has been advancing policies that put the needs of everyday Americans before the greed of billionaires and Big Business. That legacy of progress and that ongoing work could not matter more right now, as our nation transitions to a Joe Biden presidency that will be as progressive as we — you and Public Citizen, together — make it. We’re also busy undoing all the damage Trump did. And, like so many nonprofits and small businesses, we continue to experience financial strain related to the coronavirus pandemic. If you can, please make an emergency donation today to support the critical work we’re doing together or even join our popular Monthly Giving program. Thank you.
