John,
Amazon is turning all of their delivery vehicles into surveillance machines.
Sign the petition: stop Amazon’s surveillance fleet.
Major outlets report that Amazon is installing artificial intelligence (AI), four lense cameras in their delivery vans. These constantly recording, AI cameras collect and analyze footage of the driver (including their eye movement!), our neighborhoods, our homes, and our children.1 It seems inevitable that Amazon will share video captured with their 2,000+ law enforcement partners––the privacy policy obtained by CNBC clearly states that they can and will share footage with police.2,3
For the delivery drivers, these devices will only further suppress worker organizing and exacerbate unsafe conditions.4 Drivers concerned with alerts from cameras impacting their performance will be more focused on the surveillance cam than the road. Managers will be able to use recorded video to spy on workers creating an environment ripe for harassment and abuse.
Amazon’s ever-growing surveillance empire is a nightmare on steroids. Join us in demanding Amazon stop the rollout of this dangerous program.
TAKE ACTION
Not surprisingly, Amazon is evading questions about how the devices are secured. If the cameras’ connections aren’t end to end encrypted, millions of people could potentially be in danger.
Hackers have already targeted insecure Ring cameras.5 With footage gathered en masse from thousands of roaming delivery vehicles, along with capturing drivers’ biometric data, it's only a matter of time before cyber-criminals target the AI surveillance cameras in Amazon's vans. Tell Amazon to put an end to the largest corporate surveillance program in US history.
For surveillance-free future,
Ayele, Fight for the Future
