This Black History Month let’s have the moral courage not just to honor and recognize the trailblazers of the past, those who’ve bent the moral arc of the universe towards justice, but to commit ourselves to that same goal. Let’s keep bending that arc towards justice and let’s keep making history. 

 

It is not lost on me that my candidacy is a historic one. 

 

There are currently ZERO Black women in the U.S. Senate. Zero.  In NC, we have never even had a Black woman as a general election nominee for the US Senate.

It's not because we haven't tried. It's because we have been systematically shut out. It's because our foes have had more power than our friends and an old guard has done all it can to hold back the tides of progress and change. 

No longer. As of right now, this campaign has the best chance out of any nationwide race to change that. Now is our time. This cycle, we break through. This cycle, we stop talking about how Black women are the backbone of the Democratic Party and instead we make them the face of the Democratic party. 

That’s going to mean organizing, knocking on doors and dropping literature. That’s going to mean informing friends and family. That’s going to mean voting and that’s also going to mean donating when and where you can.

I know money’s tight, I’m a teacher, I come from hard work not wealth, I understand. But if you don’t have a lot of money, you don’t have to give me a lot of money. If everyone getting this email set up a $10 recurring donation, we'd have what we need to sustain a campaign that can go all the way.
