Hey John — it's Gisele! ❤️

I’m reaching out to you today because I want to share a personal story: My
experience as a medicinal marijuana patient. John and I are deeply
dedicated to the fight for full weed legalization.

Legal weed has changed my life,
John, and I know it can help so many others,
too. My own story of being helped by the plant is my truth, and I’d like
to see more people understand it rather than fear it.

I’ve lived with chronic back pain most of my life. Every photo I have
leading up to my medical marijuana license has one thing in common, a
memory of pain.

I was always fearful of strong prescription medications like opioids. As I
got older, I tried countless different combinations to manage my pain:
Chiropractic care, yoga, a million types of stretches. They each helped,
but there was no long-term fix.

Then, in 2016, Pennsylvania legalized marijuana for medical use. I was one
of the first people in line when
Pennsylvania’s first
dispensary opened. Today, legal weed is the medicine that keeps me
pain-free.

John, the
prejudice and misinformation surrounding this plant is one of the biggest
hurdles to legalization. I’m regularly referred to as the “Pothead” Second
Lady. I’ve had folks tell me, “You don’t look like a medical marijuana
user.”

After I was included in an issue of Weed World, people even sent me
D.A.R.E. resources. At least it helped my childhood friends dig up this
photo of me winning a D.A.R.E. art contest in 5th grade. Not trying to
brag... 😆

John and I have been pushing hard for the full legalization of cannabis
in Pennsylvania.
In 2019, John embarked on an adult-use cannabis listening tour in all 67
PA counties. In three months, the historic tour saw over 10,000 people
turn out in person.

Weed should be legal, safe, and pure for medicinal and recreational use by
adults in Pennsylvania and everywhere in the
U.S. Legal weed will create tens of thousands of new jobs. It will help
farmers, veterans, and people suffering from chronic pain. It will help us
expunge more senseless marijuana convictions. And it will be a big step
forward toward racial justice.
