Team,

Food is universal, because everyone needs to eat. But our country’s food system is deeply broken, with small family farms continuing to struggle and disappear over the years in competition with massive factory farms and corporate food conglomerates.

And when it comes to nutrition, far too many communities and families lack access to healthy, affordable food in both rural and urban areas. More than 35 million Americans across our nation experience food insecurity—no one should have to go hungry in the United States of America.

That’s why I’m so passionate when it comes to issues of food and farming, and why I’m excited to share that I’m joining the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee.

This is historic for two reasons: with newly elected Senator Raphael Warnock, it will be the first time in American history that the committee has two Black members; and I’ll be the committee’s very first vegan senator.

I hope to increase access to healthy, affordable food in vulnerable communities, advance my legislation to protect public health, improve animal welfare, defend small farmers by banning factory farms, and address the inequities and unfair policies that have long impacted Black farmers.

Our food system may be broken, but I assure you I will work hard to fix it in my new role on the Senate Agriculture committee. If you believe it’s time for a better, fairer food system, pitch in $10 or more to support my campaign as I fight for food and agricultural justice:
