This week Governor Abbott announced five emergency items for the Texas Legislature to address, including expanding broadband access, restricting the ability of cities to defund the police, reforming bail procedures, increasing election integrity, and providing civil liability protection to businesses for COVID-related lawsuits.

Texas lawmakers are generally prohibited from passing legislation during the first 60 days of their session, but emergency items are an exception.
