The first celebration of Black History Month in the U.S. took place in 1970 at Kent State University. More than 50 years later, we continue to honor Black individuals who've contributed so much to our lives.
It is not enough to spend this month honoring Black historical figures while our country continues to ignore and beat down Black people every day.
We must commit every day to uplifting Black voices and ending systematic racism.
