Fellow Conservative,

Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday and we all hope for a great game.

What makes a game great? Sportsmanship, integrity, and a respect for the rules of the game.

But back in D.C., Democrats are playing a dirty game of political football, where they are changing all the rules in order to push their radical agenda into the end zone.

It’s a bit complicated, and we’ve written a blogpost to break it all down <[link removed]>, but the short story is this:

- Democrats can’t pass their radical agenda in the Senate because they would need 60 votes to overcome a filibuster.
- So Democrats instead plan to use the reconciliation process, which means they only need 51 votes.
- However, the Byrd Rule states that reconciliation can only be used for budget-related legislation.
- But Democrats want to implement non-budget related changes, such as the Green New Deal, giving D.C. statehood, and granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants.
- So to use reconciliation to pass their agenda, Democrats like Bernie Sanders want to get rid of the Byrd Rule.
- And with the Byrd Rule gone, Democrats can use reconciliation to pass whatever they want, with just 51 votes.

This is the football equivalent of running the ball out of bounds, down the sideline, and then stepping back into bounds at the end zone.

And Democrats are hoping the American people aren’t watching political football with the same attention they’ll be giving the Super Bowl.

But they can only get away with this if they don’t feel like it’s unpopular. So let’s make blowing up the Byrd Rule unpopular!

Jessica Anderson criticized Bernie Sander’s efforts to change the Byrd Rule, with this simple but great analogy: <[link removed]>
[T]he Senate should not follow Sen. Bernie Sanders and abuse the budget reconciliation process. If eliminating the legislative filibuster is the “nuclear option,” changing or ignoring reconciliation rules would be a dirty bomb. Americans deserve a Senate that abides by its own rules and governs responsibly.
Preserving the Byrd Rule is an essential part of preserving the filibuster and protecting minority rights in the Senate.

But don’t take our word for it. Here’s the Democrats in their own words:

President Biden’s Sweeping Executive Orders
Watch Noah Weinrich talk about Biden's leftist executive orders <[link removed]>
President Biden has signed a sweeping collection of executive orders since he assumed office.

For instance, one of his most egregious executive orders was rescinding the Mexico City Policy and allowing American taxpayer dollars to go to international organizations that provide abortions.

By issuing these types of executive orders, President Biden has abandoned his call for unity in pursuit of a leftist agenda.

This past week, Biden signed a number of executive orders that have a direct impact on the safety of the country:

- Biden directed an immediate review of President Trump’s “public charge” rule that bars green cards from immigrants likely to use certain social welfare programs
- Biden rescinded the requirement for asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico while being processed
Take Action
Conservatives in Congress must hold the line against Democrats' radical agenda. Here are two ways to make a stand:

- Oppose Biden’s Nominations in the Senate <[link removed]>—People are policy, and with left-wing leaders, we will get bad policy. Watch Senator Ted Cruz and Jessica Anderson <[link removed]> break down what’s at stake.
- Stop Pelosi from rigging our election laws with H.R. 1 <[link removed]>—The first step to improving the security of our elections is not letting Democrats in Washington rig the process permanently in their favor.
- If you read only ONE thing this week, READ THIS <[link removed]>. Heritage Scholar Hans von Spakovsky has put out a list of nine election reforms that are sorely needed. These are the policies that every lawmaker should be trying to implement to secure our elections.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks, because we will have a lot more to share about what Heritage Action will be doing to fix our laws and restore faith in American elections.

P.S – The Heritage Foundation just released a video based on an op-ed I wrote titled, “The Year of the Woman” [Watch the video] <[link removed]> The false narrative of modern feminism has been exposed and put on notice. A record number of conservative women were sworn into Congress and Amy Coney Barrett is the first female originalist justice on the Supreme Court. 2021 is the year of the woman… including conservative women!
Join the fight to advance the conservative agenda.
