Hello, Friends —

This week, the House voted on the National Apprenticeship Act. I support apprenticeship programs; they are an extremely valuable way of developing a talented, well-trained workforce of the future.

Unfortunately, this bill takes the wrong approach. Instead of expanding apprenticeship opportunities, empowering industries and workers, it instead empowers big government, big bureaucracy, and big labor. It doubles down on outdated policies, while adding additional red tape to apprenticeship programs, inextricably linking them to labor unions.

Worst of all, it eliminates the new types of apprenticeship programs created by President Trump’s administration. Those programs were designed with the future in mind, allowing our workforce to adapt to new industries and new technologies. House Democrats’ desire to shut them down is a terrible decision, especially considering the many new economic challenges facing America due to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Senate Democrats are using a budgetary maneuver called “reconciliation,” which will allow them to pass another coronavirus relief bill with only 51 votes — even though many Senate Republicans have indicated their willingness to develop and pass a bipartisan bill. The House has taken a few procedural votes in the reconciliation process this week; they have, unsurprisingly, passed along party lines.

So much for “unity.”

We are in a fight for the soul of our country right now. We can’t win that battle if we only fight on the eight square miles of Washington, DC. We have to get out in America, so we can put our people and our nation first — rather than selling out to foreign interests abroad.

I will always keep fighting for you, and for the America-First principles that will make our great country safe and prosperous.

AROUND THE DISTRICT

STATEWIDE VACCINE APPOINTMENTS

On Friday, January 29, the State of Florida announced the launch of a statewide preregistration system to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointment for eligible individuals: people 65 and older, frontline health care workers, and long-term care facility residents and staff.

Individuals can pre-register for vaccine appointments and be notified when appointments are available in their area by visiting myvaccine.fl.gov.

This website will allow individuals who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to be proactively contacted when vaccine appointments are available at state-supported vaccination sites. On the site, residents can select their county and submit their contact information. Once appointments are available, individuals will be contacted by phone call, text or email and will be assisted in scheduling an appointment.

Additionally, as part of the statewide registration system, each county has a designated phone number that individuals can call and pre-register if they do not have Internet access. The complete list of numbers is available here, and local numbers are below:

  • Escambia County: 866-201-1025
  • Okaloosa County: 866-200-3599
  • Santa Rosa County: 866-201-7110
  • Walton County: 866-201-3054
  • Holmes County: 866-201-3925

On January 21, State Surgeon General Dr. Scott Rivkees issued a Public Health Advisory prioritizing vaccine in Florida for Florida residents. (The public health advisory is here). Please remember to bring proof of residency for any appointment.

CGC DAUNTLESS RETURNS TO PENSACOLA

On Friday, February 5, the Coast Guard Cutter Dauntless crew returned to their homeport in Pensacola, after completing a 61-day, 7,500 nautical mile patrol. The crew’s missions while on deployment included the training of shipboard helicopter aircrews, as well as illegal immigration deterrence off the northern coast of Haiti.

The Dauntless is a relatively new arrival to Pensacola, but its missions have brought it, and the Coast Guard, great credit — such as in October of 2020, when it interdicted and seized nearly $60 million worth of cocaine. Welcome home!

While working in Okaloosa County on January 18th, he was pulled over by Florida Highway Patrol. He was transferred to an ICE facility facing possible deportation back to Honduras.

“I want to thank Congressman Matt Gaetz for giving me a second chance because without him, it would be a different situation,” Gustavo said.

“Tomorrow, they (Democrats) are going to take the unprecedented action of substituting the will of Washington for the will of people in this country,” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) told Fox News’s Sean Hannity Wednesday night. “And when we get the majority back, we better apply the same standard.”

House Republicans Vote To Keep Liz Cheney In Leadership

“I don’t think Wyoming needs the Cheney name anymore,” said Ocean Andrew, a newly elected state representative. He said he received so many complaints about Cheney that he invited one of her congressional nemeses, Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, to speak on the Wyoming Capitol steps last week. Andrew hoped the rally would show potential candidates how much support existed in the state to oust Cheney in the next election. “Liz Cheney is kind of the old establishment-type Republican,” Andrew said. “And Matt Gaetz kind of represents the new Republican Party that is very anti-establishment, more individualist and more noninterventionist.”
