John,
Yesterday on the House floor, we heard from Justice Democrats, including Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, and Ilhan Omar. They shared deeply personal stories about what their time in Congress has been like.
Rashida recalled facing a credible death threat on her very first day of orientation during her first term. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke about the absolute need for accountability. We cannot let Republicans send the message to millions of survivors across the country that the way to deal with trauma is to minimize and move on.
Cori Bush said: “How can we trust that you will address the suffering that white supremacy causes on a day to day basis in the shadows if you can't even address the white supremacy that happens right in front of you in your House?”
Ilhan said “This is about whether or not we will continue to be a peaceful and functioning democracy.”
Cori, Ayanna, Rashida, Jamaal, Ilhan, and AOC face unprecedented levels of vitriol and threats every single day. In the wake of these constant threats, they need to know that we’ve got their backs and will support them as they continue to challenge the status quo and fight for working people all across the country.
In the aftermath, Justice Democrats in Congress sprung into action to hold Republicans who incited violence accountable, push for Donald Trump’s immediate impeachment, and investigate Capitol police's role in allowing the mob to breach the Capitol building.
Reps. Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley introduced articles to immediately impeach Donald Trump.
Rep. Cori Bush introduced legislation to expel Republicans who incited violence from Congress to hold them accountable for their actions.
Rep. Jamaal Bowman introduced the COUP Act to investigate how the terrorists were able to breach the Capitol.
Every single Justice Democrat in Congress is fighting for racial, economic, environmental, and social justice for all people. We will not let the Republican Party intimidate us or stall our movement, but instead, we will continue to elect candidates like Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman.
With your support, we will continue to push forward in the fight for the soul of the Democratic Party.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
