In honor of Black History Month, I want to celebrate the bold, Black
history of Boston.
It was in Boston that the first ever chapter of the NAACP was formed, that
Martin and Coretta first met, and that Phyllis Wheatley - who was
previously enslaved - published the first book of poetry written by a
Black woman.
Boston is where Mel King ran for mayor and where Sarah-Ann Shaw broke
barriers to become the first Black woman journalist on television in our
city.
There is a deep history of Black excellence and liberation in Boston - one
that has not always been honored by our city. This February, and every
day, we are continuing to make space for our heritage, our community, and
to make progress in the fight for equity and justice.

contribution to the Boston chapter of the NAACP, to support their
critically important work in honor of Black History Month this year.

Thank you for supporting the Boston NAACP today. Together we will continue
to fight for Black justice, opportunity, and liberation.
In solidarity,
