Look, it is no child’s fault that they’re born into poverty.

When I visited an early-childhood center in Rifle, Colorado, a mother told me, “I work so I can have health insurance, and every single penny that I make goes to pay for this early-childhood center so I can work.”

It’s a triangle-shaped trap that locks people into poverty and makes it almost impossible for them to climb out.

That’s why I worked so hard to ensure that an expanded child tax credit is included in President Biden’s COVID relief package. This will increase the credit parents receive for their children to up to $3,600 and could cut child poverty in half.

But here’s the catch — Republicans eliminated the child tax credit from their relief proposal. If they voted for Trump’s tax break for the wealthiest Americans, how could they oppose a middle-class tax cut? It was a slap in the face to families everywhere who are struggling during this pandemic.

So this morning — at 5:30 AM — Vice President Kamala Harris cast her first tie-breaking vote paving the way for COVID relief without the threat of Republican interference.

It’s now clear how fragile our 50-50 Democratic majority is. So, here’s the part where I need your help:

Republicans will stop at nothing to block our progress and make us fight for every bill. Will you sign on to protect the Child Tax Credit and ensure that it remains in President Biden’s COVID relief plan no matter what? [[link removed]]

American families have waited long enough for the relief they have so desperately needed during this pandemic. We must keep fighting.
