Hello John,

As NPH kicks off the 2021-22 legislative cycle, we’re taking on the critical work of moving timely and urgent policies while advancing big picture, long-term strategy.  As part of that work, we’re honored to join our statewide partners at California Housing Partnership (CHPC) and Housing CA (HCA) who are leading this initiative, and many other stakeholders, to kick off an exciting new affordable housing framework.

This framework of equity-centered, evidence-based affordable housing solutions, California’s Roadmap HOME 2030, is a bold and transformative policy package that we urge our legislators to prioritize in order to go big, build momentum, and deliver tangibles to our neighbors and communities. The RoadMap takes a holistic approach to our housing crisis, with policy solutions designed to dismantle racist housing policies, protect our environment, improve our overall health, increase the quality of our children’s education, and strengthen our economy.

The Roadmap calls on state leaders to embrace the need for bold systems reform and structural change, building on recent legislative and programmatic efforts to address housing and homelessness and requiring greater accountability at both the local and state level.

Officially set to launch in March 2021, California’s Roadmap HOME 2030 contains 12 initial big, bold policies that lawmakers can enact now, to make change today and tomorrow for all our neighbors. Over the next ten years, the Roadmap sets a strategy and series of concrete proposals to:

  • Create 1.2 million new affordable homes for low-income Californians, including for those experiencing homelessness;

  • Protect 1 million low-income renter households from losing their homes, including more than 300,000 who face eviction each year:

  • End homelessness for more than 150,000 Californians who are unhoused every night and over 400,000 who are unhoused throughout the year; and

  • Close racial equity gaps in housing and homelessness.

  • Stay tuned for the full Roadmap HOME 2030 in March.

We look forward in the coming months to working with lawmakers and our affordable housing coalition to bring the Roadmap to the forefront of policy talks at the Capitol. Thank you for joining us in prioritizing housing for all and working toward a future where everyone has a place to call home.

In Solidarity,

Pedro Galvao,
