Voting rights are in serious jeopardy.

Angry over their election losses, far-right officials in states across the
country are rushing to put an end to many of the policies that allowed for
greater voter participation in the 2020 election and the Georgia runoff
election. So far this year, more than 106 bills making it harder to vote
have been introduced in 28 states across the country.^1

That’s why, in addition to fighting back in the states, People For the
American Way is super-charging our efforts to pass comprehensive reform
legislation to PROTECT the right to vote and stop these attacks on our
democracy. But we need your help.

Nowhere are attacks on voting rights more of a threat than in Georgia,
where Republicans in the state have already introduced 8 bills that seek
to restrict popular voting rights policies.^2

This includes bills that would end no-excuse voting by mail, end automatic
voter registration, limit a new resident’s ability to vote in runoff
elections, and ban ballot drop boxes – a particularly egregious and racist
policy following targeted polling location closures predominantly in
communities of color.^3

Rather than acknowledge that it was their failed policies and bad
candidates they had on the ballot, the Far Right is once again resorting
to undermining the right to vote by doing everything they can to prevent
voters from accessing the ballot box – and it doesn’t stop there.

The resentment is so bad in Georgia right now that a “Stop Stacey” PAC has
been launched by the Far Right to attack voting rights champion Stacey
Abrams for her voting rights work in the event she decides to run for
governor in 2022.^4

These direct attacks on voting rights and those who seek to expand them
reveal the true intent behind the Right’s efforts and also underscore the
urgency with which we must STOP them.
