John — Democrats finally have control of both Congress and the White House, yet we’re so close to squandering our opportunity already.
The filibuster is an antiquated Senate rule that will let Mitch McConnell’s minority have the final say over what does and doesn’t pass.
You heard that right: When we pass a bill in the House, it will still die in the Senate because Democrats don’t have 60 votes.
We’ve got a bold agenda planned for the next two years, but we cannot even begin to make progress with the filibuster still in place. Will you add your name to join me in demanding the Democratic Senate eliminate the filibuster immediately?
Democrats in the Senate should only need a simple majority — 51 votes — to pass a bill; the filibuster is no more than an outdated relic from the Jim Crow era. Even as the Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell still holds the cards.
But we can change that!
The Democratic majority in the Senate can swiftly eliminate the filibuster and get right to work passing COVID-19 relief and the rest of our priorities.
Keeping the filibuster in place will mean all our legislation will never see President Biden’s desk. Sign on today to demand it be eliminated.
Thanks for speaking up,
— Eric Swalwell
