A 50/50 Senate Demands Bipartisanship

A Timeless Lesson That Washington Forgot
By Andrew Tisch, No Labels Co-founder

"In Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, a character named Mike is asked how he lost all his money. He says, “Two ways: gradually, then suddenly.”

But imagine if Mike was answering a question about how the United States could lose its democracy. He’d most likely come back with the same answer.

American politics had been on a long downhill slide before it finally erupted into a Constitutional crisis on January 6. Thankfully, our democracy held up under the strain. This time."

Problem Solvers Caucus Calls for and Immediate Vote on $160 Billion Vaccine Distribution Package

"Today, the 56 member House Problem Solvers Caucus called for an immediate vote on the $160 billion “Defeating COVID-19” vaccine distribution package, as the broader bipartisan talks and reconciliation process continues. The plan was formally endorsed by the Caucus.

The “Defeating COVID-19” vaccine distribution package would allocate new federal investment funds for the national distribution and administration of the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as support for expanded testing programs, PPE purchases, and other key initiatives to beat this deadly virus. The package shares similarities with the vaccine portion of the “Direct COVID Pandemic Response” portion of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan and ongoing negotiations."

K-12 Education: Can More Funding for Low-Quality Schools Move the Needle?
By Julia Baumel, The New Center

"The shift to online learning as a result of COVID-19 has disrupted the education and development of millions of children. But even before the pandemic, an unconscionable number of American students were falling behind.

In the last two decades, America has made no progress in closing the academic achievement gap between high- and low-income students, and we’re falling behind our peers internationally. "

Some may look at the current 50-50 Senate composition and say "America is the most divided it has ever been", but we see this as a unique opportunity for America to be the most bipartisan it has ever been. Members from both sides of the aisle should be at the table negotiating to find a solution to the biggest public health and economic crisis in our nation's history.

Tell Washington: It's time to put partisanship aside and work across party lines to pass the COVID relief Americans need now.
