about my decision to support an impeachment inquiry.

Recently, I reached out to tell you I support an impeachment inquiry of President Trump.

It is part of Congress’ constitutional responsibility to be a check on the president, and I have always been committed to fulfilling my duty and holding the president accountable. I, along with my Democratic colleagues, have been left with no other choice but to proceed with an impeachment inquiry.

I also want to be clear about what that means, because news is developing at record speed and facts are changing moment to moment.

Under the framework of the Constitution, the House can vote to impeach a president for “high crimes and misdemeanors.” This inquiry is the first step in that process. Now my fellow committee chairman and I will work together to gather the facts. If we determine the president has committed a crime, then the full House will vote on articles of impeachment.

This is undeniably a troubling time for our country, so I want to check in and hear from you. Please take a moment to share your thoughts about the impeachment inquiry.

Thank you,

Elijah
