Shortly after President Biden was inaugurated, I signed a letter written
by Representatives Ayanna Pressley and Cori Bush that calls on the
President to commute the sentences of all those on death row.
The Trump administration executed 13 people in its final days, more than
all other Presidents in the previous 50 years combined. The death penalty
is immoral, ineffective, costly, and racist. We must end it once and for
all.
I appreciate President Biden’s opposition to the death penalty, but action
must be taken to commute death sentences so that a future President can’t
do what Trump just did.
[ [link removed] ]While Congress works on officially abolishing the death penalty, can
you join me in calling on President Biden to commute all death sentences?
Every signature will be sent to President Biden’s team, so your signing on
will make a big difference.

Though the Obama administration halted all federal executions, it only
commuted two death sentences. So, Trump and former Attorney General Bill
Barr were able to restart executions. It’s just one of the many inhumane,
morally repugnant actions of the Trump administration. We need to make
sure it can’t happen again.
We must end the carnage and inhumanity of the Trump administration in
every way we can. This is one way President Biden can immediately do just
that while preventing it from ever happening again.
[ [link removed] ]Join me, Ayanna, and Cori today in calling on President Biden to
commute all sentences for those on death row.
You and I both know that there is so much we have to do. I am committed to
working hard for each policy that will make America and the world a more
just and equitable place.
In solidarity,
Pramila
