Hello Greens, 

Happy Fall Equinox! It's been a busy month for Greens around the country. Everyone's been preparing for the big Climate Strike Marches and the People's Mobilization to Stop the US War Machine Protests that happened last weekend. Check out the stories and photos below! Our National Outreach Committee gave out small grants to Green Party locals to help them get their members to the marches and protests or to have literature printed and signs made.

Also happening last week was the National Green Party Black Caucus 2020 Presidential Candidate Debate at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Six presidential candidates were there to answer questions on issues that are important to the African American community. Candidates included longtime Green politician Howie Hawkins, self-described protest candidate David Rolde, activist Ian Schlakman, Youngstown Board of Education board member Dario Hunter, musician Chad Wilson and Dennis Lambert.

From coast to coast, Greens were out in force to support the September 20 Global Climate Strike, heeding the call of youth leaders in the Fridays For Future school strikes for climate. In New York City, the Green Party of NY joined over 250,000 climate strikers in the rallies and march in lower Manhattan. “Being in that massive crowd, spotting faces I’ve known from many years of struggle for ecological justice and many, many new faces who have more recently committed themselves to the fight, was so moving” said Michael O’Neil, GPUS’ new Communications Manager who came in from Syracuse, NY for the event. “And as someone who has worked on Green Party campaigns that have called for a Green New Deal —going back to 2010— it felt amazing to see scores of groups and young people carrying that demand forward on their posters and banners.”

Greens in Madison, WI joined Extinction Rebellion and allies in taking over the state capitol building, chanting “I believe that we will win!” and marched on a dirty fossil fuel plant to demand clean, renewable energy.

Speaking at a Palo Alto, CA rally, Green Party of Santa Clara County Co-Chair Nassim Nouri thanked young people in attendance for courageously fighting to save their own future from climate catastrophe and asked all of the adults present to “raise (their) hand in honor of all the young people we have done wrong. We have all lived a life for a disposable planet and did not pay attention to the fact that we don’t have one.” “Greens actually hope for and work for a future that we deserve and we hope for, and a better world that we know is possible,” Nouri said.



Back in NYC, GPUS National Co-Chair Margaret Flowers was one of the primary organizers of the People’s Mobilization to Stop the U.S. War Machine and Save the Planet, a series of events linking the issues of war and climate catastrophe that included a rally on September 22. GPUS endorsed the mobilization and provided support for Greens to attend. “We need, in the anti-war movement, the same assertive and strong positions that the climate crisis has — and the climate crisis movement understands we are not going to solve the climate crisis if we don't stop the U.S. military machine” said Flowers. “We are anti-imperialist, we are pro-peace we are for a Green New Deal that cuts military spending significantly and uses those funds to lift up people and protect the planet.”

2016 GPUS Vice Presidential Nominee Ajamu Baraka attended the mobilization, where he was awarded the U.S. Peace and Freedom Prize for his courageous work and writing against militarism and empire. Speaking on the need for Greens to lead the way on linking these issues, Baraka said “What we have seen from both of the major political parties is they are quite happy to collude with the ruling class in perpetuating death and destruction against the entire planet. That is why it is so important for a party like the Green Party to exist.”

GPUS National Co-Chair and GPNY Co-Chair Gloria Mattera echoed that sentiment, saying “The Green Party has, for decades, been speaking out against all wars and U.S. aggression and connects with Green Parties and Left organizations around the world because we know that we need an international solution both for peace and the climate crisis.”





The GPUS National Black Caucus hosted a spirited presidential candidates forum on the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, IN with a special focus on issues of concern to the black community. Most of the active candidates were able to attend and the event was livestreamed <[link removed]> on YouTube and Facebook.

In addition to giving candidates the chance to elaborate on their platforms for racial, social and economic justice for people of color, the event also featured guest speakers Bishop Gregg L.Greer, Chairman Fred Hampton Jr. and Akua Njeru. “Our goal is to liberate our people and to give them access to information that they may not routinely have,” said GPUS National Black Caucus member Monica James, the primary organizer of the forum. “The Green Party Presidential Candidates of the 2020 campaign are all paying attention to the current issues in America and we can change the current narrative."

Green victory over Glyphosate <[link removed]>The Green Party of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Area's <[link removed]> petition campaign paid off big time in terms of public health and environmental integrity. The petition asked the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners to stop using glyphosate in open spaces, parks, sports fields and other public areas under its administration. Approximately 500 signatures were presented to the Commissioners.

After lots of dedication and perseverance gathering signatures, the Green Party of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Area (GPAMA) had its petition ready for a Bernalillo County Commission meeting in October 2018. Prior to the meeting an alert was sent to petition signers. People called, e-mailed, and appeared in person at multiple meetings to support the effort to eliminate glyphosate use on county-administered properties. The Commission heard the comments and unanimously passed a resolution to impose a moratorium on and eventually eliminate the county's glyphosate use. CONTINUE READING <[link removed]>

Allegheny, PA. Greens Favor Civilian Police Review Board <[link removed]>Two members of the Allegheny County Council submitted a bill to create a countywide Civilian Police Review Board, similar to the board already in existence in Pittsburgh. A public hearing was held in August by Council, and below is testimony given by a Green Party spokesperson: "Hi, my name is Jay Walker, and I'm the chair of the Green Party of Allegheny County. I represent the more than 1000 registered Green Party members who reside in this county. SEP 09, 2019 Greens run in fall 2019 elections <[link removed]> At least 62 Greens are running in elections in September, October and November 2019. At least 43 Greens have run in winter, spring and summer 2019 elections, with 18 elected. Most are running for a variety of positions: city and town councils, soil and water commissions, school boards, township trustees, and zoning boards. AUG 28, 2019The Green Party denounces business deals and trade policies through which multinational corporations profit from the destruction of the Brazilian rainforest. <[link removed]> Private concerns are gutting the Amazon rainforest, contributing to fires, the loss of plant and animal species, and global warming through the release of carbon as trees are cleared. More than 74,000 fires have burned approximately 7,200 square miles this year in the Brazilian portion of the rainforest."Brazilian politicians are lobbying U.S. businesses like Cargill and Burger King for contracts by promoting the Amazon region for reckless and exploitative ranching, logging and mining operations," said Craig Seeman, member of the Green Party's Animal Rights Committee.
