CODEPINK Congress

What: Tuesday Capitol Calling Party on demilitarization at home
When: Tues., Feb. 9, 5 pm PT/8 pm ET

Dear John,

On February 9th, CODEPINK CONGRESS will feature two guests: Dr. Melina Abdullah, one of the original organizers of Black Lives Matter movement and leader of the Los Angeles BLM chapter, as well as Reverend Liz Theoharis, the co-chair of the Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for a Moral Revival.

Dr. Melina Abdullah, an academic and activist, is the co-founder of the Los Angeles Black Lives Matter chapter and chair of the department of Pan-African studies at California State University, Los Angeles. Reverend Liz Theoharis, in addition to leading the Poor People's Campaign with Reverend Dr. William Barber, is the director of the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice at Union Theological Seminary.

Guests will join CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin, CODEPINK CONGRESS coordinator Marcy Winograd, and Muslim Delegates and Allies president Hanieh Jodat Barnes. Join us Tuesday, Feb. 9th, for a discussion of demilitarization at home!

Following our guest’s presentation and Q & A, CODEPINK co-director Carley Towne will host our Capitol Hill Calling Party to urge our congresspeople to sign the CODEPINK pledge to refuse money from the top five military contractors and the NRA.

Summary of our last meeting on February 2: Guests John Feffer and Aaron Maté joined us for a lively discussion on what US-Russia relations under President Biden might look like. Watch here, and take action to encourage Biden to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and denuclearize our world!

Update: Good news!  After we emailed the White House, President Biden appointed Robert Malley, lead negotiator for the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, to be Special Envoy to Iran to secure a speedy re-entry into the Iran deal.

Finally, we invite you to join our CODEPINK Congress Google Group, a space for sharing events and actions and having meaningful discussions. Request to be added here!

Onward toward peace and justice,
Medea, Marcy, Hanieh, Carley, and the entire CODEPINK team
