The first quarter of our campaign ends on September 30th, and we will have to report how much money we’ve raised.
The amount I have been able to raise as a first-time candidate with no party backing, corporate PAC/lobbyist money, or family wealth will signal whether what we’re doing is remotely possible. But, more importantly, the amount we report will demonstrate that the status quo is about to change.
As a grassroots candidate, I am an unapologetic advocate for a bold progressive agenda offering real solutions for real, hard-working people. Taking this route, though, means we need people to power our movement—the very people I’m fighting for.
Here's what’s happened since our last campaign update:
1. ACTIVISM: We’re Leading
- "Morgan Harper, a Democrat who is running for Ohio’s 3rd Congressional District, gave a speech [at the #climatestrike rally]—the only one by someone in the political arena—and signed two pledges, promising to advocate for the Green New Deal and refusing to accept campaign contributions from the oil, gas, and coal industries." - Columbus Dispatch, September 20, 2019
2. #MORGANIZING: We’re Everywhere
- Every week, our now 565+ volunteers are representing the campaign at festivals and community events, and knocking on doors. On average, we’re engaging over 1,000 voters each week!
3. @MH4OH: We’re Outspoken
- Last night I joined Roxane Gay in a conversation about the future of black feminism and the power of women of color who are changing politics as we know it.
4. FUNDRAISING: Donate $25
I’m finding that once we connect with people—whether on social media, in person through our neighborhood walks, or at community events, they support a new generation of bold progressive leadership. Our challenge will be increasing my name ID amongst voters. So we need additional resources to allow us to spread our message by:
- Hiring the most robust field team possible
- Purchasing digital and traditional media ads
- Hosting our own community events
Following our last email sent out on September 5th, 67% of recipients responded with a donation. Help us beat that! We are very close to reaching our goal and sending a signal that people-powered, political movements can work.
